A tumour may be found in the bronchi or in the spongy lung tissue. A tumour that starts in the lung is known as a primary lung cancer. Tumours in the lung may also be due to cancer which has spread through the blood from another part of the body such as the breast, bowel, or prostate \u2013 these cancers are called lung \u201csecondary\u201d or \u201cmetastases\u201d. The following information refers to primary lung cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Like other cancers, lung cancer is the result of the uncontrolled growth and multiplication of cells in the lung(s). Over time, this abnormal cell growth develops into a progressively larger mass which starts to invade functional parts of the lung, affecting breathing, causing pain and symptoms related to the loss of normal lung function. Doctors call this abnormal cluster of cells a \u201ctumour\u201d. This team of health professionals is known as the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). Understanding the individual roles of the different health professionals is important so you can identify who needs to be a part of your health care team. It is also important to engage with a team you trust and with whom you feel confident talking about your treatments, needs and wishes. Members of your healthcare team may be located across different healthcare settings, including; hospitals, general practitioners, clinics and community health networks. Members of your health care team can include a respiratory physician, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgeon, palliative care physician, lung cancer nurse, social worker, pharmacist, Additionally, the care plan highlights any potential side effects or long-term health issues that the patient may need to monitor, it also provides guidance on how to manage these side effects. It encourages proactive communication between the patient and their healthcare team, ensuring any changes or concerns are addressed promptly. Furthermore, the survivorship care plan emphasises the importance of regular follow-up care, which may involve scheduled check-ups, imaging tests, and monitoring for signs of recurrence. It may also include a tailored plan for ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, or psychological support to help the patient adjust to life after treatment. The 2019 survey came after the delivery of two Lung Foundation campaigns that same year \u2013 Stop asking the wrong question and FFS! We\u2019re losing our patients campaigns. Both campaigns had an aim to reduce lung cancer stigma in Australia.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Several questions were the same in the two surveys. The 2019 survey also contained questions about lung cancer stigma.
